Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 August 2026
This policy explains what personal data Roommate collects, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have. It covers the roommate.ge website and the Roommate mobile applications.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Roommate is the controller of the personal data described here. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights in section 9, write to info@roommate.ge.
2. Data you give us
Account and profile: first name, last name, date of birth, gender, country, email address, phone number and password. Your password is stored only in hashed form — we never see it.
Profile photo and any images you upload to a listing.
Your answers to the matching questions used to suggest roommates.
Listings you publish, including location, price and description.
Messages you exchange with other users, and the content of any report you submit about another user.
3. Data collected automatically
Usage and device data: pages viewed, actions taken, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser or device type and operating system.
In the mobile apps: a push notification token together with the device platform, so that we can deliver notifications. Removing the app or signing out unregisters the token.
Cookies and similar storage, used to keep you signed in, remember your language, and measure how the service is used.
4. Services we use to run the platform
Twilio — delivers the in-app chat and push notifications.
PostHog and Hotjar — product analytics that tell us how the service is used so we can improve it.
Meta (Facebook) — measurement of our advertising. This may involve tracking across other sites and apps. On iOS we ask for your permission before any such tracking, and you can decline.
Cloudflare Turnstile — protects sign-up and sign-in from automated abuse.
Contentful — hosts the blog content.
These providers process data on our behalf under contract, or as independent controllers where their own terms say so.
5. Why we use your data
To create and run your account, and to authenticate you — this is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
To show your profile and listings to other users, and to let you message them — the core purpose of the platform.
To suggest relevant roommates and properties.
To send notifications about messages and account activity.
To keep the platform safe: reviewing reports, enforcing blocks, and detecting fraud and abuse — our legitimate interest in protecting users.
To improve the service through analytics, and to measure advertising — with your consent where consent is required.
To meet legal obligations.
6. Who can see your data
Other users see the profile information you choose to publish — your name, photo, age, gender, country and your listing details. Your email address, phone number and password are not shown on your public profile.
If you block someone, they can no longer see or contact you, and you no longer see them.
We share data with the providers listed in section 4, and with authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal data.
7. Transfers outside Georgia
Some of the providers in section 4 are located outside Georgia. Where data is transferred abroad we rely on the safeguards required by Georgian data protection law and, where applicable, by the GDPR.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists.
When you delete your account we remove your profile and personal data, except where we must keep something longer to meet a legal obligation or to resolve a dispute — for example records of an abuse report needed to keep other users safe.
Analytics data is kept in aggregated or pseudonymised form.
9. Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent you have given.
You can exercise most of these directly in the app: edit your profile, and delete your account from your profile settings. For anything else write to info@roommate.ge and we will respond within the period the law allows.
You also have the right to complain to the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia.
10. Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from your profile settings in the app or on the website. No request to support is required. Deletion removes your profile, your listings and your personal data from the platform, subject to section 8.
11. Children
Roommate is not for people under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has an account, write to info@roommate.ge and we will remove it.
12. Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. On mobile devices your session credentials are stored in the operating system's secure storage — the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you we will notify you as the law requires.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, give notice in the app or on the website.
